Welcome to Madeira Island....
All manner of superlatives are used to describe this year round destination - 'The jewel of the Altantic' and 'Portugal's floating garden' are just two. There is no doubt that the island together with the smaller neighbouring island of Porto Santo have established themselves as quality destinations for those seeking peace and quiet, a safe haven or a desire to commune with nature.
Most of Madeira's resorts are situated in and around the island capital - Funchal, which is in itself is a fascinating place to explore. From this centre you have easy access to all parts of the island, and for ramblers and hikers, there is a network of more than 1000kms of Levadas to walk along.
The island is famous for it's New Year celebrations, which achieved an entry in the Guiness Book of Records. Less well known but equally enjoyable are the annual Flower Festival and Wine Festival celebrations which are held in April and September respectively. The year round spring like climate makes this destination an ideal choice at any time of year. There isn't a better spot within easy reach of Northern Europe to enjoy a warm winter break.
